Regular Chiropractic Care Makes A Difference

Patients who do not fully understand the importance of regular chiropractic care to maintain health and wellness should take close note of a recent RAND Corporation study on chiropractic and the elderly (see accompanying article). This study reports that patients under chiropractic care feel healthier, are less reliant on the health care system, and take fewer prescription drugs. This ultimately provides for a higher quality of life.

We encourage regular care for the entire family - promoting health before organ systems begin to fail. Anyone looking forward to a long healthy life needs to be serious about it now - exercise regularly, maintain a healthy diet, and get regular chiropractic care.

Rand Study Cites Benefits of Chiropractic for Elderly

Senior citizens who receive chiropractic care report better overall health, fewer symptomatic chronic conditions, less sick days in hospitals and nursing homes, and more mobility than elderly non- chiropractic patients, according to a new study conducted by the RAND Corporation (a prominent US research organization).

The three-year randomized study of people 75 years or older showed 87 percent of chiropractic patients described their health status as good to excellent, compared to 67 percent of non-chiropractic patients -- a significant 19 percent difference. The chiropractic patients were also less likely to use prescription drugs and more likely to exercise regularly and participate in community activities.

The landmark study was funded by the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER), the W. Kellogg Foundation, the Swiss Science Foundation and the Peer Counseling Center in Santa Monica, California.

The study revealed better overall health and higher quality of life among those who receive chiropractic health care. An estimated 15 to 17 percent of a chiropractor's practice is comprised of patients over age 65.

In general, the chiropractic patients reported fewer health problems -- 15 percent fewer reported two or more chronic conditions; 22 percent fewer suffered with symptoms of arthritis; 15 percent less time in nursing homes and 21 percent less time in hospitals over the previous three years.
